McNally

In an incredibly sad and ironic twist of events, local bookseller McNally-Robinson has filed for bankruptcy protection. This occurred just a week after hosting an incredibly successful signing with Neil Gaiman. The Polo Park store, the one that won Neil's contest (tied along with another bookstore in Georgia) will close suddenly this coming Sunday, along with their Toronto outlet.
There will be much more fallout on this subject and more that can be written, but this belies the general weak state of the bookstore industry and how that state might compare and contrast with that of comics specialty retailers in general. Up until now we have not been engaging in replies to any posts, but this is going to change now, with moderated replies being allowed (assuming that the change is made tonight. Your comments are invited, but bear in mind that we'd like to have an intelligent discussion and will be vigilant in that regard. Also note that time is very limited because we are still reworking the e-commerce, so posts may be delayed.....sometimes a lot. Anyway, it's a very sad day because of this development. When one bookseller suffers we all lose a little....

The storm roils on....

Here we are on Christmas Day night, and the Dakotas, Iowa, Minnesota and many points south have been inundated with up to 22 inches of snow, with no letup in sight until sometime late Saturday. This made for some interesting Christmas stories and once again brought out the best in many folks who helped those less fortunate this season.
To all of you out there, we hope you had a joyous Chanukah, a very Merry Christmas, and we wish you all the best for coming New Year celebration!

Some service anomalies

Now that the new look of the site is running, we have to advise you of a small but annoying problem evident in the e-commerce system: specifically, you may not be allowed to log in as a registered user in either the pre-order section or the membership list section.
The cause of this was a data loss that happened just before we changed the look of the site. The problem is in some of the linking data, and worse, it appears to be random. We don't know who might be affected.
If it's affecting you, please enter your order and then register as a new customer. You should only have to do this once in each section. Once the e-commerce system is replaced, this problem will not hamper any further operation.
Oh...and a slight note about the list: The regular Punisher series was left off the list. If you take Punisher, please note it in the special instructions area during checkout. Incidentally, Previews is added automatically as a choice in standing orders.
Believe me, we can hardly wait for the new e-commerce system! Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Welcome!

Welcome to the first part of the promised upgrade to Comics America!
We're only half-way there, but decided to give you (and ourselves in turn) a small holiday gift.
Many changes will be taking place over the next few days and weeks, so please keep coming back to see them!
In the meantime the site will use a combination of the old (the shopping interface), as well as the new (this awesome new design). We have streamlined things slightly, and we promise that when you see the new shopping system, you will be blown away!
